What to expect

How we repair your hearing aids

Grace or Francesca will greet you at the front desk and get you settled. Your visit then moves through four parts.

  1. Step 1

    Assessment

We ask what’s happening (no sound, weak sound, crackling, whistling or cutting out) and perform a listening check. Each symptom points to a different cause, so this step guides everything that follows.

  2. Step 2

    Cleaning

We clean the wax filters, domes, microphone ports and tubing. Many hearing aids that seem broken are simply blocked by earwax or debris, and a thorough cleaning restores their sound.

  3. Step 3

    Repair

We replace battery doors, receivers, earmold tubing, domes and filters in our office. If moisture is a factor, we can also dry your hearing aids in a professional dehumidifier.

  4. Step 4

    Final check

We confirm your hearing aids are working properly before you leave. If a repair can’t be completed in our office, we’ll explain why and send your hearing aids to the manufacturer for you.

Common causes

The three most common causes of repairs

Most hearing aid repairs trace back to three causes. Moisture, because hearing aids are worn all day at body temperature, and Florida’s humidity adds to it. Earwax, which naturally migrates into filters, receivers and ports. And physical damage, from drops or being stored loose in a pocket or bag.

A professional deep cleaning every six months addresses moisture and earwax before they lead to a repair. For most hearing aid users, it’s the most valuable routine appointment to keep.

Signs your hearing aids may need repair

  • One side has gone quiet or dead, and a new battery or a full charge didn’t help
  • It crackles, cuts out or whistles when it never used to
  • The battery door is loose or won’t close properly
  • The tubing on an earmold has become hard, yellow or cracked
  • Your hearing aids got wet, or were left in a hot car
  • It’s been six months or more since your last deep cleaning

Why hearing aid maintenance matters

Hearing aids typically last about three to seven years. Regular care has a real effect on how long yours last: changing filters before they block, replacing tubing before it hardens and removing moisture before it reaches the receiver.

Because repairs are done in our office, most small jobs are completed while you wait, so you’re rarely without your hearing for long. We service all major brands, wherever you bought your hearing aids. If you purchased your hearing aids from us, cleanings are part of the ongoing professional care included with them.

Some damage requires the manufacturer. Moisture inside the case, a cracked shell or a failed circuit board needs a factory repair, and we’ll arrange it for you. If your hearing aids are still under the manufacturer’s warranty, that repair may be covered.

Questions we get at the front desk

What people ask when they walk in holding a hearing aid that’s stopped.

Do I need an appointment?

Not for a cleaning or a small fix. You can walk in between 1 and 2, Monday to Friday. For anything bigger, call and we’ll find you a time.

Will you work on a brand you don’t sell?

Yes. We clean, adjust and repair all major brands, wherever you bought them. Bring the charger or a spare battery too, if you can.

My hearing aid won’t turn on. What should I try first?

Clean it, then change the battery or put it on charge. Check the wax filter and the dome while you’re at it. Still silent? Bring it in.

What’s too damaged to fix here?

Water inside the case, a cracked shell or a failed circuit board. Those go back to the manufacturer for a proper repair, and we’ll send them off for you.

How do I keep them out of the repair pile?

Wipe them every night, never with alcohol. Change filters and domes when they look dirty, not when they block. Keep them out of the bathroom, and bring them in for a deep cleaning every six months.

Insurance

We accept many insurance plans. Bring your insurance card, and we’ll check your benefits for you.
