How we care for your hearing

Our care covers every step, from your first hearing test to help with hearing aids you already own.

A hearing evaluation
We start by talking with you about your hearing and your health history. Next, we look inside your ears with an otoscope, a small lighted instrument, to check for earwax or anything else that could affect the test. After the hearing test, we go through your results with you and answer your questions.
Recommendations from leading manufacturers
We work with Phonak, Oticon, ReSound, Signia, Starkey and Widex. If hearing aids are a good option for you, we recommend them based on your test results, the places where you want to hear better, your budget and your preferences.
Real Ear Measurement
Real Ear Measurement verifies hearing aid output in your ear canal and guides adjustments toward your prescriptive targets. Learn about Real Ear Measurement.
Learning to use your hearing aids
When you receive your hearing aids, we show you how to use them and how to look after them. We talk through what to expect as you get used to wearing them, and answer your questions as they come up.
Follow-up adjustments
Follow-up visits let us review how your hearing aids work in daily life and make adjustments when needed. Hearing aids from our office include five years of professional care.
Hearing aids from another provider
We clean, troubleshoot, repair and reprogram hearing aids from most major brands, including devices from other providers. Call or send us a message about your hearing aids so we can explain how we can help. Learn about hearing aid repair.

Why we measure the sound in your ear

Hearing aid software provides a starting point based on your hearing test. Your ear canal affects the sound delivered by the hearing aid, so in-ear measurement helps us compare its output with your prescriptive targets.

Tools we use to check hearing aids

Device testing and in-ear measurement answer different questions. Together with your feedback, they help guide appropriate programming and follow-up care.

  • Test device performance

Electroacoustic Analysis (EAA) checks a hearing aid in a test box against the manufacturer’s performance specifications.

  • Measure sound in the ear

Real Ear Measurement uses a thin probe tube to measure sound near the eardrum with the hearing aid in place.

  • Guide adjustments

We compare the measurements with prescriptive targets and use your feedback to help fine-tune the programming.

Questions you can ask about your fitting

  • Will you measure the sound in my ear?
  • Will you compare it with my prescription?
  • Will you test the hearing aid itself?
